Washington Avenue Brass Quintet brings brass music to schools and community centers using a combination of pop and classical music to educate audiences on the history of the brass music.

Dr. Sarah Herbert - Trumpet As a music educator, Herbert maintains a private trumpet studio with the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department and has been the trumpet instructor for the Preparatory Department’s summer band camp. She has also taught the undergraduate instrumental methods course for the music education department at CCM. Before moving to Cincinnati, Herbert was the Director of Instrumental Music for an Independent School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In this position she taught band and guitar for grades 6-12 and served as the Fine Arts Chair for the school.

Amy Schaaf - Trumpet is currently pursuing her DMA in trumpet performance at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. A North Dakota native, she grew up in Mandan, where she started taking violin lessons at the age of five.  Beginning in the sixth grade she picked up a trumpet and hasn’t looked back since. She obtained her undergraduate degrees from North Dakota State University where she majored in both Music and Civil Engineering. Following that, Amy attended Ohio University, where she gained a Master’s in Trumpet Performance. Her primary teachers include Phil Collins, Alan Siebert, John Schlabach, and Dr. Jeremy Brekke. Amy has always had a passion for brass chamber music, beginning in the seventh grade when she played in her first trumpet trio. She was the selected soloist with the NDSU Wind Symphony in 2014, placed at the National Trumpet Competition in 2017, and is a member of the International Trumpet Guild and Pi Kappa Lambda. In her spare time Amy enjoys reading, cross-stitching, and spending time with her fur-baby, Tacocat.

Jessica Pinkham - Horn Jessica Pinkham is second horn in the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and an active freelance musician in the greater Cincinnati area. She received her Master of Music in horn performance from Southern Methodist University in 2016, where she performed regularly with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Jessica received her Bachelor of Music in horn performance from CCM in 2014. She also studies music cognition, and presented at the International Conference of Music Perception and Cognition in July 2016.

David Roode - Trombonist David Roode studied at Duquesne University before joining the Memphis Symphony Orchestra as second trombonist from 2002 - 2007. A desire to study abroad led David to the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he completed a Post Graduate Diploma in 2008. Since graduation, David has worked with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Hallé, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony, the Royal Opera of Copenhagen, the Cincinnati Symphony, the Rochester Philharmonic, the Columbus Symphony and the Charleston Symphony. David spends his summers in Iowa, where he is a member of the Des Moines Metro Opera.

Dr. Russ Zokaites - Bass Trombone Focusing on new music, Dr. Zokaites has worked with composers on nineteen world premieres. As a guest clinician he has given recitals and classes at several universities and conservatories throughout the United States including, the Manhattan School of Music. Zokaites was selected as a fellow for the 2013 Alessi Seminar hosted by Joe Alessi, the Principal Trombonist of the New York Philharmonic.
